The canyon formed after the earthquake. The two sides you see in the video were the same olive grove, side by side. With the earthquake, the land split in two and this canyon was formed.

Actually that is the common foundation they used to use in most buildings in Hatay. There are still hundreds of buildings with that type of foundation. This building must have been built with good standard materials to have stayed intact. It hasn’t collapsed. The building has no foundation, unbelieavable.
Hence the enourmous amount of casualties.Actually that is the common foundation they used to use in most buildings in Hatay. There are still hundreds of buildings with that type of foundation. But with proper earthquake legislation it should not have been allowed to have such a shallow foundation.
A deep reinforced concrete curtain walled basement should have been incorporated.
It is absolutely scandalous to have such a foundation.
This news is a lie. My sources in the field confirmed the allegations.CHP deputy Ali Mahir Başarır said that they visited the rooms one by one and examined the situation and that the allegations (obscenity, hookah, etc.) were baseless. He even says that the room layouts are different from the video. https://www.cumhuriyet.com.tr/turki...agindaki-yurda-gitti-iddialar-asilsiz-2050235
An apartment where not even the windows are broken.
I just watched a news report on haberglobal, an olive orchard in a village in Hatay. It was turned into a Canyon with a collapse of almost 10 meters, then the muhtar pointed to a place and said that it used to be a hill. We see incredible things.
We are facing a disaster that changes geographies.

There are hundreds of heart wrenching videos on TikTok that'd make you cry your heart out. It's so difficult to comprehend the working conditions of the rescue workers, the experiences of the survivors in the pitch black rubble stuck for days, the dialogs between the rescuers and survivors, moments of earthquake from inside the buildings, outside the buildings, the aftermath.. These videos are not circulated on the internet. They're not gore but very difficult to watch and hear. I just watched a video when the rescue worker talks to a little girl in the rubble, asking how she is and she says "I've been here with the lifeless body of my father for 30 hours."
I chocked up. There are hundreds of videos like this.
What is the practice of insuring properties in Turkey like?My neighbor lost a three-story-building in this earthquake. He is over 60 years old and a very good friend of our family. You know this type of friend well. The guy who is almost as close to you as your next of kin? That's him. We call him makarnacı because he used to sell packaged pasta in his youth to provide for his family. At least, that's what our elders told us.
This building was his home and his old age money in one. This was his retirement account that went down the drain. He lost his life savings in mere seconds. All the years of hard work and counting every penny spent just perished in oblivion. Can you imagine the pain?
Even in Japan insurance can only pay a little part of destroyed houseWhat is the practice of insuring properties in Turkey like?
It’s quite common and often mandatory insuring properties in the US be it commercial, residential or rental and is becoming a mainstream practice in India’s Tier-I & II cities as well
