Are those brands from different countries? Didn't we try this with Altay and only SK agreed much later? I am just asking because i am curious and i don't want to see old junk in the inventory.
I am not the expert of the matter but the way Altay designed lead to only one engine that is made by MTU and the gearbox coupled to it to offer the required performace. We could have started Altay in a way to support alternative powerpacks in much earlier stages.
And since South Korean engine was the only likely compatible powerpack, (hence the Altay project itself stemming from K1 and same powerpack used on the similar chasis) with the minimal redesign process.

And when we come down to IFV - APC class the powerpack is available by multiple manufacturers located in different countries as far as i know.

Good discussion regarding land vehicles in general with Cem Altınışık from FNSS. Starting from how IFV's are created and evolved(both tracked and wheeled), some details for Pars Alpha design process and ending with next generation tanks and medium tanks.

It is good to learn that Kaplan and Zaha has almost the same logistical base.(I was hoping for that but now we kinda have confirmation) This will be great if Navy wants a APC, IFV and medium tank. Simply acquiring Kaplan with different configuration will help them simplify their logistic planning.(Especially considering the space limitation)

Otokar seems to set eyes on success of Toyota pickup in middleeast wars.


We might see Turkish pickups with Turkish machine guns in near conflicts!

Where is the BMC Pick-up?

I am wondering that myself. They are sitting on a gold mine but that project(Tulga) seems to be going nowhere. I think instead of focusing Altug and tracked IFV project, they should have been focusing on Tulga.

... where is Altay, Altug 8x8, the supposed tracked IFV they were working on and so on and so on. Looks like it is not as easy as copying an Israeli or Otokar design and mildly improving over it. They better stick to trucks.

In the next few years we will have so many different weapon systems and thus different launchers, that i think we need either a modular launcher or an indigenous Boxer.

In the beginning when shots of Pars Alpha's design first came out the design of the vehicle suggested that a similar modularity system was implemented to the one of Boxer.

Later we were a bit disappointed to learn that this is not the case. Nevertheless I am sure that if TSK says it wants such a vehicle, FNSS will be able to develop it.

Later we were a bit disappointed to learn that this is not the case. Nevertheless I am sure that if TSK says it wants such a vehicle, FNSS will be able to develop it.
Wouldn't that require TSK to change doctrine, I mean from what we've seen from the past few years doesn't inspire faith, not compared to TN and how they're making strides in updating their capabilities. I do understand that if TSK has deemed their current vehicles sufficient to beat back any enemy from our neighborhood, then that's it, but I am not sure if they manage to send the message over the border as well.

I mean the Land forces (KKK)

All the current IFV modernizations are more of an urgent need aimed at asymmetric threats in low intensity warfare.

After the IFV tender ends and the real acquisitions start we will see what really TSK's vision is. The tonnage of the vehicles, the tracked and wheeled options, the cannon calibre and turret choice will determine many things both for the doctrine, but also from a logistics point of view.

When I decided to comment on the issue I wanted to express my opinion on the industry part of things. I wanted to say that we are fully capable of developing such a system. Personally I don't think TSK will require a redesign tho. We may see some interesting additions to the designs and packages we are familiar with, but I don't we would see systems that we or TSK don't know. TSK regardless of its technology leap and the increasing capabilities of the industry is still a conservative structure in my opinion.

It is rumored that 2025 will be the "Land Forces" acquisition year. If God answers my prayers, we may finally see some movement in the right direction and many of our questions may be answered.

I'd say this is good enough options for an IFV, main thing missing is tracked and bridge laying version but if necessary there is no reason they cannot be made as well, imo. They just need to choose the bloody thing and get on with it.

To add, why do we want a 30+ ton 8x8 AFV to carry our long range missiles on a brigade level? What's the actual advantage?

STA and KMC are already able to carry Cirit, Omtas and UMTAS family (including GM block 1 and 2)
