What does Morocco need in the near future? I will not mention the best scenario, but only the platform that I think will make Morocco a more capable serious power in the region.

Let's cover the Air Force, Navy and Ground Forces!

Airforce
When it comes to the Air Force, the F16 and C130 serve us well, and even more so after the opening of the maintenance plant in Ben Slimane.

Air Force:
- Additional order for 48 f16 vipers to replace the Mirage, F5 (assembly line in Morocco?)
- 20 more C-130Js (we only have about 25 different transport planes, we need more to boost our logistics)
- 2 carriers on Least refueling in the air than the f16 (this will give our planes more time to stay in the air, give us another great capacity)
- 2 AEWC
- 2 SIGINT aircraft.
- 4 navy Drones for the Navy
- 24 Akıncı (The bomber drones will lighten the burden of some air-to-ground missions by the f6 )

Land forces

- we have a good amount of M109 artillery but need the long range/precision guided laser munitions on all our artillery like Caesar artillery . (Upgrade all our units up to at least A6.

- Morocco needs more modern radars, especially AESA GAN based radars. Sentinel A4 seems like a nice addition, but we need many different radars with different purposes. (We still operate some old radars from the 1970s like AN/MPQ-49 and other PESA radars).

- More modern equipment for our soldier's Infantry + Replacement of the standard infantry rifle.(Manufacture with a license in morocco..)

- All of our M1 Abrahams tanks should be upgraded to at least M1A2 SEPV3 with an active protection system.

- APS protection systems are no longer a luxury, but an urgent need in view of the proliferation of anti-ATGMs. For Guided Armor Need it on all of our modern tanks as well as on the IFV we will require soon.

- Big order of hundreds of IFVs, and thousands of armored Vehicles and MRAPs.

- many batteries of Coastal Missile Defense Systems.

- We need more MLRS attack capabilities with a distance of between 70-150 km ( US himar, Turkish TRG-TRGL series, or Chinese artillery).

- More long and heavy-range attack capabilities against high-value precision targets. in the ranges of 150-500 km, ( Lora, Khan, Chinese DF11).

- Short-range air defense systems such as 35 mm mobile vehicles and air defense missiles on armored vehicles for example (for mobile / fixed forces and facilities on the battlefield and surrounding areas). Such as Sungur or Mistral. This will protect our forces from low-level threats such as drones, helicopters, artillery or missiles.

- At least 100 transport helicopters at least, we lack this, but recently we got new news that Morocco is putting up a tender for 80 transport helicopter

Moroccan navy

The Moroccan Navy will have to develop long-distance maritime patrol capabilities, including in West Africa within the framework of partnerships with countries in the region.

We will have to quickly strengthen our means of monitoring and patrols on the high seas to protect these energy interests (heavy OPV, aircraft, ISR)

In addition, if Morocco goes further in the exploration of gas in the Atlantic Ocean with other important discoveries of hydrocarbons, the Royal Moroccan Navy will have to develop more in the coming years. Let's not forget how Egypt is making big deals after the gas discoveries of the past years.

And finally the Navy

- updated Mohammed VI FREMM (add ECM, CIWS / Ram plus add another 16 vls
= 16 +16 total 32 VLS)

- two naval patrol aircraft like ATR-72 for example

- 4 AIP Submarines (not only crew training (2.5 years) but also interoperability between different naval systems (frigates, corvettes, air assets, submarines, etc. will take a decade to master.

- 4 The opv class (2000 tons). Order OPVs that will allow changes in the electronics/weapons without extensive rebuilding activities in any case of crisi/war times making the 4 OPV to armed corvettes.

- 4 frigates 3000 tons - 5000 tons.

- 3 corvettes 2000-3000 corvettes.

The soon-finished shipyard in Casablanca will be able to handle 22 units annually in a dry dock, 400 to 470 boats using a quay crane (450 tons) and at the same time 6 medium-sized boats on a lift platform (5000 tons). Every big deal we do in a naval acquisition has to include technology transfer, and possibly some ships built in Morocco.

Pakistan has made an extraordinary naval deal with Turkey with TOT, a lot is included in the package, and we should proceed in a similar way.

The only way we can have an independent foreign policy is to create a strong defense industry.

Morocco, which sealed a separate normalization deal with Israel in December 2020, has pursued its own path by signing a security agreement last year with Israel that has paved the way for a number of military deals.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces would build two factories to produce war drones with Israeli supervision and expertise. This will allow the kingdom to manufacture advanced drones at a low cost compared to those it is currently buying from China and Turkey. They have sealed a deal with Morocco to build drone factories there, defense contractors said.

According to Israeli military sources, the war drones, which will be manufactured in Morocco within months, will enable the carrying out of surveillance missions, remote collecting of intelligence information and participation in the fighting.

We can assume after many strong reports now that Morocco is in the process of manufacturing drones.

nice! I can assume that morocco have got delievered the 4 MQ-9B sea guardian that got green light after the abraham accords in late 2020. The reason why i mentioned wing long 2 is because morocco have ordered a batch of more then 10. Morocco is the drone super power of Africa without a doubt!

Urgent: Morocco officially threatens to invade the buffer zone if Iranian drones are used even once

Omar Hilal, the permanent representative of the Kingdom of Morocco to the United Nations, told international media a while ago
that the separatist Polisario mercenaries on Algerian soil had received Iranian-made drones.

Omar Hilal during a press conference declares that Morocco will act forcefully and that there will be great consequences for the Polisario if the drone. His Majesty King Mohammed VI was clear about the buffer zone and the responsibility of MINURSO, and if it is unable to fulfill its duty, morocco will end it.

Moroccan intelligence has for many years known the involvement of Iran in Algeria, as well as their military cooperation with the Polisario through Algeria. Morocco has intel that the Polisario now have hands-on Iranian loitering ammunition, and if they use it then Morocco will clean the whole buffer zone. Omar hilal was precise when saying that the drones don't pose a threat to Morocco, it seems like the military operation in the buffer zone is ready with the details. Now, let's wait and see how Algeria, and Polisario will respond to this.

The future of Moroccan air defense systems.

What morocco should do is compete to have a capable network-centric, and layered air defense concept. What I mean by that is that enemy aircraft, artillery shells, or any other enemy incoming fire will be dealt with in different ranges or altitudes. This network should operate in the whole of Morocco, and in all corners of the kingdom.

This means that enemy UAVs, Helicopters, and Aircraft will have to deal with multiple air defense systems to penetrate Moroccan air defense lines. The way of war is changing, and with the new introduction of drones, and loitering munition, we need new solutions.

The defense lines in terms of ranges should be the following:

The first layer should be between the ranges of 0- 1 km against especially small drones:

- laser weapons + anti-drone jammers+ smart munition system like the SAHIN 40MM.

( Morocco has the skylock drone jammer, but not any other system to counter threats below 1 km)

The second layer should be in the range of 4km:

- 35 mm mobile vehicle
- CIWS ( Phalanx variant)

( We do lack these air defense systems below 4 km range, we only have a few "Modern" AF902 SHORAD)

The third layer should be in the range of 4-8 km:

- Short-range air defense systems on vehicles such as stinger/Mistral/Sungur.

( We do lack this short-range air defense missiles )

The fourth layer should be in the range of 10- 20 km

- Morocco has the VL MICA

The Fifth layer should be between the range of 20-50 km.

- Morocco has the sky dragon 50
- PAC 3 MSE to be delivered

The Sixth layer should be in the range between 50 km- 150 km.

- Morocco has ordered the Barak MX in the ranges of 35 km-70km- 150 km. It offers both single, and dual-pulse rocket motor.

The Seventh layer should be in the range between 150-300 km.

- Morocco has the FD200B with a range between 200-280 km.

in terms of altitudes, our short air defense systems will reach between 1-4km, 8km, 10 km. When it comes to SD50, FD2000B,Barak mx, and PAC3 the altitude varies between 20- 30 km.

In the last years, Morocco has acquired some solid deals in the Medium to long-range air defense missiles. If we have enough batteries to defend all corners of Morocco is a valid question. For now, we do lack at least the short-range air defense systems.

Sick! Whats the range, and alltitude for the pac 3? I find so many different numbers.

The test target for the PAC-3 is the Juno, also known as Patriot Test Vehicle (PTV). With an estimated apogee of 100km according to this site

151210-F-YF873-841.jpg

an apogee of 100km meant that the Juno is in classified as a short range tactical ballistic missile (TBM/SRBM), in the same class of SCUD A/B/C, Iskander at around 300km range.

the interception would be well after the Juno PTV pass its apogee in the reentry, so maybe the PAC-3 is around 20-30km in height when interception happens.

While the Arab summit is taking place in Algeria, Morocco drone strikes Polisario while trying to enter the buffer zone

According to a media close to the Polisario, 3 militiamen aboard a military pick-up would have been neutralized by a Moroccan airstrike today. The same report a separate incident, due to an alleged mine, which would also have injured 3 Polisario militiamen.

Part of the common basic training to which conscripts undergo military service for a period of four months. They learn how to carry and handle weapons, aswell as combat exercises in the first 4 months. Then they receive professional training called "specialization", throughout the rest of their course (almost 8 months), knowing that the legal duration of military service is limited to 12 months.

"Jbel Sahara 2022" is a combined exercise organized since 1989 by the FAR and the British Armed Forces. This year's edition saw the participation of detachments from the Royal Gendarmerie, the 1st and 2nd Parachute Infantry Brigades, the 1st Battalion of Atlas Hunters and their counterparts belonging to the 2nd Parachute Regiment of the 16th Brigade of British air assault.
