@TheInsider Unfortunately, the pixel output is half of your previous estimate.

I guess, Aselsan gonna use when own developed MCT based LWIR sensor. It was shared previous nearly 20-30 page on sensor and detector side.

Karat and Toygun specs dropped.

@Afif what are the implications of KARAT being LWIR and TOYGUN being MWIR? Could these two be used together to generate a weapons-grade track without using radar and therefore compromising stealth?

@Afif what are the implications of KARAT being LWIR and TOYGUN being MWIR?

So, from my incomplete reading on the subject what i previously understood is, LWIR can see objects with lower temperature than MWIR, which make them more suitable to find targets at higher altitude (at longer ranges) against cold sky background.

but LWIR sensor is not very suitable against targets at lower altitude within surface/cloud background, because the contrast is too low.
On the otherhand, MWIR has more contrast. Which makes them more capable for finding targets at lower altitude than the searching platform itself within cloud and surface background.

So apparently, KAAN will have the advantage of both MWIR and LWIR, Unlike current F-35. (However, I read somewhere next gen EOTS may have a LWIR sensor also. Not sure how they will fit it)

Could these two be used together to generate a weapons-grade track without using radar and therefore compromising stealth?

Yes and no.
The way I see is, generally there are two scenarios.

1. Target is actively emitting and it get caught on BUFRIS EW, then BUFRIS geolocate the target with outstanding precision based on its emmision and cue the KARAT IRST to tracked and indetify the target.
Ultimately, KAAN's central proccessing core after doing an excellent amount of sensor fusion from BUFRIS and KARAT as well as from off-board sesnors (let's not forget each KAAN woild be highly connected to other KAAN in the area) provide a 100% passive complete fire control solution.

Now the thing is, a full passive fire control solution can be done with BUFRIS alone.
However, the way I understood the principle of Infrared search and tracking, KARAT and Toygun completely on their own cannot provide full fire control solution without activating the laser range finder.

2. KARAT detects and tracks the targets but they are not actively emitting. Thus, you cannot use BUFRIS to accurately geolocate the target for a complete passive fire control solution.
In such scenario, there are broadly two option.

One is, a single KAAN in the formation takes the risk and actively emmits to get a full fire control solution for itself as well as for the others.

Or even better there is a unmanned loyal wing man, which will be deployed ahead of KAAN in the formation.

It will activate its own AESA sensor (cued by KARAT's tracking data from KAAN through data link) and paint the target for KAAN. Then KAAN will fire its long range BVR weapon.

And the risk in this case even more acceptable.

Now let's keep in mind, these two scenarios (1 and 2) here are highly oversimplified. There can be lots of variables in them.

That might be true on a single IRST. But I was talking about cueing BOTH KARAT and TOYGUN on target and fusing their data to generate the track. Like how you need two eyes for depth awareness.

Actually, something like this, on a single aircraft:

I know this technique. (Triangulation)
You can't have it from a single platform even if it has two sensors.

This is not triangulation and you can determine distance with offset sensors from one system with a certain level of accuracy

I maybe mistaken but that looks like a triangulation to me.

That is triangulation
My mind went to cell tower triangulation, which requires 3 sources with a certain distance between them, that's my bad, but yes 2 points on a single device should suffice, depending on distance and resolution of sensors. Need to calculate the angle between vectors from two sensors to target, but at long range it may be that on both cameras target is only 1 pixel in same position so you can't calculate that difference

Aselsan will introduce GÖKBERK mobile laser weapon system at IDEF'23.

The GÖKBERK system can search, detect and track UAVs with radar and electro-optical sensors, and provides physical destruction of threats using a laser weapon with a power of at least 5 kW, and functional destruction using the Kangal jammer subsystem.

The abilities of the SERHAT Radar, the protector of critical base areas, have been increased

The Mobile Mortar Detection Radar (SERHAT), which protects critical base areas against mortar threats, has been upgraded to SERHAT-DUAL configuration by gaining new capabilities.

According to the information obtained by the AA correspondent, ASELSAN will share its capabilities in communications, air defense, avionics, electro-optics, electronic warfare, radar and unmanned systems with local and foreign visitors at the 16th International Defense Industry Fair (IDEF 2023) to be held in Istanbul on July 25-28.

Within the scope of the fair, the new configuration of SERHAT, in which ASELSAN has increased its capabilities in line with the developing technologies as a result of coordination with the Presidency of Defense Industries, will also be exhibited for the first time.

SERHAT, which has been in the inventory of the Turkish Armed Forces since 2014 and has proven its success in protecting critical base areas against mortar threats, continues to develop.

The SERHAT Radar, which can calculate the drop-drop locations by detecting and tracking mortar munitions, gains new capabilities in line with the developing needs and is upgraded to the SERHAT-DUAL configuration.

In addition to the existing capabilities, the SERHAT-DUAL Radar, which will have the ability to detect, track and classify artillery, rocket, mini/micro UAV, has also increased the target detection range.

The development work of the SERHAT-DUAL Radar, which has capabilities far beyond its peers, has been completed and the firing test phase has begun. With the system entering the inventory this year, the Turkish Armed Forces will gain the power to protect critical base areas against different types of threats with a single radar.

Meteksan Yakamos-RT dipping sonar.
It is smaller, lighter, and more compact due to being a high-frequency sonar. (High frequency=smaller wavelenght=smaller array)
It is specially developed for small platforms like small patrol boats and USVs.
It won't hinder the mobility of sea platforms even small platforms like USVs.

More importantly, it has 450km detection range against 1 m² targets (and from that you can calculate its detection range against LO targets)

The advantage of LWIR is it can tell you the distance to the target which means Turkish Karat IRST will be able to send the missiles on silent mode without radar
