I have a question (that I probably could google), but when you turn on the afterburner, you're talking about sudden increase in speed and thus higher pressure, but is it possible to gradually turn on the afterburner in steps to minimize the sudden thrust ?

Yes. You can gradually increase the afterburner's thrust. But if your engine is not designed to withstand that increase it is still going to be a problem.

Yes. You can gradually increase the afterburner's thrust. But if your engine is not designed to withstand that increase it is still going to be a problem.
As per @Afif ’s explanation , you can introduce afterburner in stages. The fuel spray nozzles can be adjusted in say 5 stages in the case of f16s to increase afterburner level in increments.
When the fuel air mix is burnt in the combustion chamber to the full it would create too high a temperature for the innards of an engine to withstand. Therefore a cooler air is introduced by the compressor to the airflow before it goes through the turbines. So when the hot air exits the turbine it has a good deal of oxygen in it. When you spray this hot air with fuel, it will use this oxygen and reheat the exhausted air, increasing thrust.
During dogfight when you are in full dry thrust and suddenly need extra power to get out of a sticky situation or you find there is a missile on your tail, you are not going to think about staged afterburner.

TF 6000 is supposed to be used in ANKA-3 , isn't it?
ANKA -3 doesn't need afterburner.

TF 6000 is supposed to be used in ANKA-3 , isn't it?
ANKA -3 doesn't need afterburner.
Bro in fact afterburner is not the most favouable thing nowadays for any platform but just a scientific trick as we all know. ANKA & KIZILELMA may never need a sudden thrust increase...

Isn’t it most useful for increasing take off weight and or reducing distance

On land they probably won't need it but if we intend to use them on naval platforms, it is needed ! TCG Trakya

Baykar have a video of the test touch and go, a really detailed video how TB3 touches and fly with in 2 sec. Landing is like falling 2 meter to the ground. They have it only on Insta account.

Possible TF6k TF10k timeline.

The first ignition of TF6k: by the end of this year or Q1 next year.
The first ignition of TF10k: by the end of next year or Q1 2025. (it might be quicker as I'm suspicious that they are designing both in parallel and those 2 are only 6 months apart)
The first delivery and integration of TF6k for the Kızılelma-A: by the end of 2025 or Q1 2026
The first delivery and integration of TF10k for the Kızılelma-B: Q2 2026 to Q4 2026

1-year flight tests on Kızılelma-A, serial production of TF6k starts Q2 to Q3 2027
1-year flight tests on Kızılelma-B, Serial production of TF10k starts Q4 2027 to Q2 2028.

Possible TF35K timeline
Start of the design activities, 2021.
Start of prototype production, 2024.(some parts)
The prototype starts to take shape in Q3/Q4 2025
The first ignition, 2026.
The first delivery, integration, and ground tests, 2028.

RR designed an engine in 18 months. It all depends on what experience you have. Mr Akşit once said every next engine takes half the time to make. Unless you introduce an unproven and experimental feature to the engine your time to a usable product shortens with every build you make.

I do think taking the example of TS-1400 is a bit misguiding for two reasons:

  1. It is the 1st large-scale turbine engine TEI has developed from the ground up, EVER. You could say that is also the case for TEI's turbofan projects, but TEI isn't as "green" as they are in 2018.
  2. TS-1400 is a dual-use engine. It is meant to go in both military AND civilian platforms. Certifying an engine for civilian use is a more through progress. The tests are more numerous and rigorous, therefore it takes more time.

Is it civilian engine: no
Is it large scale turbine engine: no
