Why don't we cooporate with R-R on engine projects which we are lacking right now?

"United Kingdom: Türkiye is a key partner for the UK through strong military integration and defense industry cooperation."

They do not provide technology transfer.
They were ready to provide TOT and produce an engine together with Kale through the company they formed as a JV called TAEC , to propel KAAN. But they would not relinquish their IP rights to us. They were ready to allow for engines and any planes that were powered by them to be sold freely to third parties.

First we introduced a Qatari entity in to the equation which they rejected. (They didn’t mind sharing tech with us ; but not with the Qataris)
Then after Qatar pulled out of TRMotor partnership, our IP rights insistence was a deal breaker.

Still, RR, as far as I know, is among the consortiums partners that is designing the TF35000. There is extensive discussions on the matter in previous pages (re: @Cabatli_TR posts)

They could have accepted for the first blocks. Later, design a new engine. But hey, we love to push our boundaries ...

The domestic and national engine LEVEND, developed by BMC POWER, was integrated into the Tugboat-25 owned by the Istanbul Shipyard Command and began service on July 18.

With approximately three times the traction power, it successfully completed its first test voyage by docking Atatürk’s legacy, TCG Savarona, at the port.

We continue to work and produce for our country!

One thing I would like to know why it is LEVEND and not LEVENT !!!
I can understand that MURAD is the acronym of Milli Uçak RADarı. But what is LEVEND?

While "Levent" is both a name and a title for a sailor or military officer during the Ottoman period, the word "levend" generally carries negative connotations such as "idle, unemployed." Furthermore, "levend" is the Persian form of the word "levent."

It doesn’t sit well with the Arabisation of Turkish names either.

Only thing i can find is that Levend is the ottoman version of Levent, but i can't confirm it.

It is correct. Names usually end with "d" instead of "t" in Arabic linguistic culture, which affects Ottoman through the alphabetical culture.

How does the word exist in other Turkic languages? If it is LEVEND, I personally don't mind its use if other Turkic countries adopt it, but if it is solely for the arabization of the Turkish language, then I agree with you.

It should be Levent, even if it ends with "d" it should be converted to "t" according to the rules of the Turkish language. Murad is different. Murad is short for Milli Uçak RADarı (M-U-RAD). Levend doesn't stand for anything.

I would think of names like code names rather than literal names. Levent is used as a man's name in the modern day and seldom used to mean the marines. Levent is converted to levend when it receives a possessive suffix. I would choose levend over levent as it becomes a distinctive private name rather than a common name. Similar to Kaan instead of Kağan. A stylized name that stands out.

At the end end of the day, the Italian are the ones willing to do tech trade. I imagine Baykars deal with Piaggio probably had a big impact on this. Of course government likely had a hand in this deal too.

@Anmdt will the 2MW engine be enough for our the vessels its meant for ?

Now if we can just do one for AW101 helicopters...
I think they're doing the tech transfer because the engine for opv aren't as important compared to uav, and usv that can sink the vessels. So in a way it's a good trade off for them

Great news. I was asking because I imagine PRC has many backdoors in all tech and communication devices it's selling and gather all sorts of information to be used when necessary, or even cause a blackout paralysing nations.

TAI CEO:

He said, "We have also launched our 3,000-horsepower engine project at TEI. Hopefully, in the early 2030s, we will have presented a helicopter (T-925) to users that we can truly call entirely our own in every aspect."

Wrote years ago about this and why it already is not an official program even if its on the side, people then said how it isn't needed and a waste of time and resources. Maybe if they had started when I asked those question we would have something ready in 2-3 years instead of having to wait until the beginning of 2030s.

You would think if I, a nobody on an internet forum, have that foresight people who earn six figures and whose job its to think and plan into the future would have the same thoughts, but alas.

You think those companies have enough engineers for that? Do you know how hard it is to develope an state-of-the-art aviation engine from scratch? Besides they all concentrated on TF-35000. And since that project shows its fruits, they can concentrate on other projects now.
You gonna know better then Aksit now? He was the one who pushed for the project to get started 5-7 years ago already and was shut down by an incompenten government. Think I'm gonna go with the guy who is responsible for this country even having any engines to speak but thanks though.

Türkiye needs way more engineers, physicists, mathematicians etc.

Well, if prof. Aksit said it so many years ago and it wasn't done. It's either corruption at government level or because of corruption.

I would have said because of not enough engineers, but if the economy is crap. Then people need to watch out for themselves.

You know better than everyone and you are always right. Love you
I? No. I just ask normal question everyone would who isn't fanboying about a incompetent government. Aksit knows better though and he was the one pushing for the project, guess he knows better than you though if he can take on such a project.

It was a sub-system (should be APU if I'm not wrong) that delayed P0's first flight by 3 months. Dozens of sub-contractors are trying hard to catch timelines. Probably something like that again.
